Road Death

Once we have become aware that you have been bereaved by a road collision or otherwise affected by a serious collision involving life-changing injury our aim is to introduce ourselves, by letter or leaflet, followed by a personal contact to see if the service would be useful to you.

We cannot change what has happened but we can:-

  • Access information for you
  • Help prepare you for the inquest, returning to work, or family occasions, etc.
  • Attend court hearings with you
  • Clarify situations concerning investigation, inquests, time delays, compensation, etc.
  • Be the representative of the community saying we are shocked that this has happened to you and we acknowledge the need for support in these tragic circumstances.

We offer:-

  • Regular contact
  • Free and confidential service
  • Home or office based visits
  • Short or long-term support
  • Time to think and try to make sense of what has happened
  • Information about other professional and voluntary support networks
  • Volunteers are selected, trained and supported by professional staff.

Why use the Road Victims Trust?

We understand:

  • That this is a difficult and confusing time
  • That there is so much information, yet it's hard to take it all in
  • The devastation caused
  • That many practical tasks have to be carried out
  • That arranging a funeral is difficult, costly and untimely
  • That dealing with police and Coroner's officers can be confusing
  • That the disbelief, the pain and the horror can be unbearable

Our team members are trained to support people through the procedures and processes that may be met.

Road Victims Trust is an organisation whose aims are to provide emotional support, practical assistance and information to those affected by fatal and life changing road traffic collisions.

Road Victims Trust and Bedfordshire Police work in partnership. As part of a care team your details will be passed to this organisation unless you specifically request the police not to do so.
