How can you help?

The Road Victims Trust expansion and development of services in Hertfordshire from April 2010 is supported by Hertfordshire Constabulary and H.M. Coroner for Hertfordshire but it receives no central or local government finance. We need funds to establish and sustain our vital work. Please consider committing just a small regular donation to assist us and complete the form below.

Road Victims Trust

Every year some fifty families are bereaved by a crash on Hertfordshire’s roads. RVT Hertfordshire will offer these families a free and confidential service including emotional support, practical information and legal advice.

Road Victims Trust Hertfordshire

There can be few greater shocks to family life than the sudden violent death of a family member through a road traffic incident or collision. The bereaved are left in need of ongoing emotional, practical and legal support for months, sometimes years. This sad event happens to around 50 Hertfordshire families every year.

The aim of the development of the Road Victims Trust into Hertfordshire is to work with the Police and HM Coroner’s Service to offer early and continuing support for such families to prevent or reduce the long term harm which often arises for unsupported victim-families in this situation.

This type of death is indiscriminate and crosses age, profession, class, race and ethnic lines.Particular problems arise because the death is unexpected and unexplained; the reasons for the crash may remain unknown for many months or, even worse, may never be known.

RVT in Hertfordshire will provide emotional, and practical support through volunteers trained to understand the psychological impact of sudden bereavement; the police and legal processes, and the practical issues that arise following such crashes. Support is conducted in the way most appropriate to each client, but usually in regular meetings which may continue for as long as two years after the event, and support at court.

Despite 3000 road deaths nationwide every year, there is no government funding for such support. To operate the service requires funds to pay for co-ordinators, to train the volunteers, to provide them with administrative and psychological support and to pay their expenses.
